On Tuesday night, strong winds swept away large chunks of oil slick that were the result of Sunday’s sinking of the anchored oil tanker “Agia Zoni II”, just off Salamis island in the Saronic Gulf.

Five large anti-pollution vessels are in the area, and are struggling to tackle the oil slick that now is only meters away from the coasts of Freattida and Piraiki, in Piraeus.

At least 4 kilometers of tar and oil have covered the sea area between Kynousoura and Selinia, in Salamis. The situation is expected to be re-evaluated, today.
