Firefighters are battling Thursday to contain a wildfire which broke out near an arms factory near the town of Lavrio, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Athens.
The fire service says the blaze is not directly threatening the arms plant, but it has evacuated a small refugee camp in the area as a precaution.
Three water-dropping helicopters are assisting more than 40 firefighters, who are using nineteen fire engines and water tankers to battle the blaze. Strong winds are fanning the flames, which is sweeping through the area’s low vegetation.
