The extreme weather conditions that Greece faces this summer seem to have no end.
Today it was Naoussa’s turn, a mountain town in Macedonia located 60 miles North-West of Thessaloniki. According to the National Observatory of Athens, the town had a total of more than 150mm of rain in just a couple of hours, which is the amount that the region normally gets in November and December combined.
The Fire Service received more than 40 calls for help, as streets, houses and shops were flooded and the main road that connects the town to the rest of the country was shut down due to rocks that had fallen from the mountain. According to reports, nobody was hurt.
The hilly morphology of the area prevented the worse. Residents say that if the same amount of rain had fallen on a flat city with no inclinations to help the water find its way out, a disaster would have been unavoidable.
